Our hotel is made entirely of tufa stone – “porolithos” in Greek, hence its name – consisting of two communal courtyards where our guests can enjoy their coffee during the day and their wine in the evening, as well as a third courtyard, the exclusive use of which is provided for the suite room.
The building itself creates an atmosphere of abundance and energy by combining traditional hospitality with modern amenities.
As the visitor enters the front desk, a stone dome of the medieval era of the Knights stands out, leading to the lounge-sitting area and the breakfast room.
The Knights left their profound mark on Rhodes. They gave her that special color that we see on the impenetrable walls, gates, hospitals, churches, hostels and palaces!
A little further into the living room, a showcase decorates the area with hundreds of years of objects found in the building during its works and invites the guest to admire it, reminding him that if one believes in miracles everything is possible.
Just above the showcase we created a mosaic of tiles of the era found during the works, with unchanged colors to this day, reminding everyone the great generations before us.
There have been times of great delays and bureaucracy. We had been discouraged several times. But we promised that what started will finish too!
For the construction and equipment of Porolithos boutique hotel, dozens of people, skilled craftsmen in collaboration with engineers and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Rhodes, worked zealously and diligently until the building reached its present form and the dream became reality. The frames of the accommodation were kept in the same dimensions, the old stones recovered from the surrounding area were reused, while the rest of the elements were always redesigned with the Rhodian architecture in mind to preserve and enhance the particular stonework, completing its unique aesthetics.
Special thanks go to our father who has fought hard and relentlessly in recent years to bring life back to a building that had been deserted for many years. His presence in the building during the work was daily, long and essential. With systematic work, diligence and attention, he was often called upon to face serious technical difficulties.
The need to pay tribute to him is great!
That is why we, in order to thank them publicly, felt the need to display their names.
